Wichita and Newton · rebuilt October 14, 2026 from your answers

You said hours
over money.
So this list changed.

Eight months in child welfare, no license yet, no supervising, Newton yes and Butler County no, and a hard requirement of a set forty hours. Everything that failed one of those is gone from the top of this page, and what is left is ordered by the schedule the employer actually printed.

8:00 to 5:00the only posting here with fixed hours in writing
$23.99what that one pays, against your $24.00
15roles open to you, three of them a stretch
3waiting only on the license

What your answers decided

Newton yes, Butler and Hutchinson noThree roles dropped, one of them the highest fixed salary I had found.
No supervisingFour supervisor postings dropped, including the one inside EmberHope.
No license yetFour roles move to a waiting list instead of your application pile.
Hours over payThe ranking flipped: printed schedule first, rate second.

One hard thing worth saying plainly: eight months is the constraint nobody warns you about. The three highest paying roles ask for two to four years, and they stayed on this page anyway, in their own section, because a posting is a wish list and the worst answer is no. Everything after them takes you exactly as you are today.

What you can get today, against what you earn today

Every open role on this page, against the $24.00 you make today. The first three ask for more years than you have, and the note under each bar says what it wants. The rest take you exactly as you are.

All three ask for two to four years and you have eight months. Postings are wish lists, hiring managers fill them with who shows up, and nobody has ever been penalized for applying early. Lead with the caseload number and the court experience, not with the months.

Six questions that protect your forty hours

None of these are rude. A manager who cannot answer them is telling you the answer.

  1. Is there an on-call rotation, and how many weeks a year would I carry it?
  2. What does the team actually average per week, not what the posting says?
  3. Is overtime paid, flexed, or discouraged? If I hit forty by Thursday, what happens?
  4. How many cases or clients does one person hold here, and how is that number capped?
  5. Is documentation time inside the shift, or do people finish it at home?
  6. Who covers a crisis that lands at 4:45pm on a Friday?

Waiting on the license

These three will not take an application without a BSRB credential. They are here so the exam has a price tag attached to it.

When the license lands

Ascension Via Christi, social work case manager

$57,328 to $83,843 a year, hospital shifts. Will not accept an application without the credential.

When the license lands

Kansas aging and disability services

$60,000 to $65,000 a year. The LBSW alone qualifies, no master's needed.

When the license lands

Wichita Public Schools, behavior interventionist

From $52,401 a year, school calendar, summers off. Needs a teaching, counseling or social work license.

About the exam, since you brought it up

You said the test is hard and your schedule will not make room for it. Both things are true, and they are connected: the schedule is the obstacle, not the exam.

+$2,722.50a year at DCF for the same job, licensed instead of unlicensed
3roles above that open the day you hold it
8:00 to 5:00the schedule that makes studying possible at all

Which is the argument for taking the fixed forty hour job first and sitting the exam from inside it, instead of trying to study on top of fourteen hour days. Nothing on the apply-now list asks for the license, so the order works in your favor.

How to work this list

  1. Send the three stretch applications on a Sunday night, in twenty minutes, and forget them. Nothing is lost if they say no.
  2. Apply to the Healthy Start coordinator role first. It is the only posting with your schedule written into it, and it costs you one cent an hour.
  3. Apply to the three COMCARE roles the same week. Same employer, same application system, and the county moves faster than anyone else on this page.
  4. Call the four Newton and Wichita roles with no published pay before applying. Two questions: the rate, and the on-call rotation. That is a ten minute call that saves you a week.
  5. Treat DCF as the pay option, not the hours option. Apply only if the on-call answer is one you can live with.
  6. Put the exam on the calendar for after you start somewhere with a fixed shift, not before.
  7. In every interview, lead with the number: twenty children, each with a network of dozens of parties, inside a fifty hour cap. Eight months in, that is a stronger sentence than most people say at five years.
